Handpicked Wines, a young, dynamic winery, is bringing its distinctive global wine experience to the heart of Sydney with the opening of the Handpicked Cellar Door in Chippendale’s vibrant Kensington Street in early November 2016.
The Handpicked Cellar Door (located on the corner of Kensington and Outram Streets) will allow guests to experience wines from around Australia and the world in one central place, with the winery not limiting itself to one location or style, but instead ‘hand picking’ the world’s best regions and varietals. Think of a romantic journey to Margaret River for a drop of cabernet, a sip of chardonnay from the Yarra Valley before heading overseas for a taste of Pinot from New Zealand’s Central Otago, all in one afternoon.
In line with the winery’s ethos, the exquisitely designed exposed-brick warehouse, formerly a CUB brewery workshop over 300 square metres, will offer a different approach to the traditional cellar door experience in both look and attitude and provide a destination for both Sydneysiders and visitors wanting to understand the glorious world of wine, winemaking and simply the good times that come with enjoying it.
The Handpicked Cellar Door aims to educate as well as entertain visitors with interactive iPads, a series of tastings at the Sensory Bar, and for those wanting a more in-depth approach, 30-minute tutored tastings at the Experience Bar.
Wine adventurers can also taste unfinished wines from the several wine tanks that line the space, plus order small batch wines on tap, the best way to discover new project wines from the pedigreed team of Handpicked winemakers.
As many as 30 Handpicked wines, including single vineyard wines, will be available at any one time to order by the glass or bottle, plus the wine can also be purchased to take away and enjoyed at nearby restaurants or at home. You can also jump online anytime and have wine delivered anywhere in the Sydney metro area within three hours.
The Handpicked Cellar door is also the perfect place to relax and offers a selection of artisanal cheese and charcuterie in the lounge area, curated by Surry Hills-based specialists, Formaggi Ocello. Craft beer and cider from New South Wales is also available.
Consumers and corporates can also book the Experience Room (up to 20 people), for private functions and tastings. A handpicked team of sommeliers, wine educators and those simply passionate about wine are on hand to host guests throughout the experience.
Handpicked Wines winemaker, Peter Dillon, says the cellar door is the perfect place for visitors to taste curated wines from around Australia and the world, without having to leave the city.
“We are excited to be bringing a diverse range of vineyards and wineries into a space which is more than just bricks and a mortar cellar door but a chance to bring premium wines from around the globe, together under the one roof,” he said.
The Handpicked Cellar Door will begin pouring wines early November and will offer an extensive events calendar starting with wine education workshops. Additional events involving design, arts and fashion will be offered further down the track.
