The Kensington Street & BEAMS Arts Festival weekend of creative vibes and spring delights witnessed over 22,000 local and international visitors in attendance - what a phenomenal success!

On Saturday 19 September, BEAMS was set to be a stellar evening hosted by the Chippendale Creative Precinct and sponsored by Greencliff, which activated Sydney’s newest downtown precinct, Kensington Street.

Kensington Street as part of BEAMS featured an eclectic mix of art, light and sound compositions by emerging, mid-career and established creatives from across Sydney and the UTS Faculty of Design that illuminated the newly revitalised lifestyle hub’s nooks and crannies!

Co Aika's 'Please Enter' installation filled the void of one of Kensington Street’s entryways as innovative performers engaged audiences where they were or as they roamed and danced along; live music by a host of talents and fire dancers ignited the crowds with delight and cheers, and makers were drawn to creative workshops hosted by creative hands!

Kensington Streetoverflowed with absolutely delectable culinary delights for ravenous visitors and seasoned foodies!

Thousands wandered through and dined in Spice Alley, where the newly opened hawker-style eatery Kopi-Tiam serves up genuine & divine Asian cuisine daily. Conjuring up the hustle and bustle of Asian urban centres under a luminous red lantern ceiling, within Kopi-Tiam lies a vibrant oriental energy.

Better more it is BYO!

Spearheaded by one of Sydney’s most reputed Singaporean chefs, Alex Lee Kitchen serves up authentic Singaporean cuisine, alongside young gun chef Tiw Rakarin of Bang Luck Thai Street Food, a fusion of Thai and Vietnamese dishes.

Let’s head to Uncle Jim’s place! Old Jim Kee is bursting with Malaysian spices. Dig into some Hong Kong comfort food at Hong Kong Diner, which infuses Sydney’s hidden courtyards with a taste of the Asian metropolis.

Sydney food festival veterans POKLOL also made it on scene with a pop-up stall in Spice Alley set up to serve all with fusion Korean eats to get mouths watering!

Prior to their launches this November, two major restaurants plated up a masterpiece!

Bistrot Gavroche offered a preview into its selection of timeless, classic French dishes that pay homage to the youth of internationally acclaimed chef Frederic Colin. Eclectic dishes emerged from Kensington Street Social, forged under the direction of Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton.

Cafe Glider,  an espresso bar offering Single Origin Roasted coffee with modern Asian street food, charmed all with the earthy, organic vibes of their coffee shop! Single Vineyards polished up the night with evening wines, and delicious cocktails were concocted by Bar Chinois.

Nestled in Kensington Streetin the historical old house precinct adjacent to Central Park, Bar Chinois is the place to hangout for the stylish and contemporary. French inspired sweet and savoury delights serving all-day brunch and a licensed bar in the evening. The ideal place for a light lunch, a place to chill-out and certainly for a fun night.

And for those with a sweet tooth, Dessert by Reynold invited visitors to indulge in a glorious lineup of curated sweets - just a glimpse of its upcoming fine desserts and cocktails in a warm and vibrant atmosphere.

Kensington Street also delighted visitors at the Kensington Street Spring Delights Free Family Fun Day on Sunday 20th of September!

Despite the cold and dreary weather, delight and warmth radiated from within Kensington Street as we indulged keen visitors in a feast for the senses with free sweets and treats strewn across the dining tables adorned with spring foliage, face-painting by Pineapple Painting, all-ages workshops by 2015 Wynne finalist Nicole Kelly and Chippendale New World Art Prize artist India Mark, an origami workshop by Sydney Origami Inc, a graffiti mural master class by internationally acclaimed graffiti artist Scott Marsh, floral crowns by Kensington Street florist Clementine Posy and a printing workshop by Bobbin and Ink.

Dishes from the piquant Spice Alley were accompanied by a rich spread from Bistrot Gavroche for all to indulge in bread, cheese and cured meats; the charms of French cuisine.

Live music from indie artists Josh Rawiri, Sean Emmett, Kartik Kuna, Daisy Sherwood-Miller and Alisha e Beni filled the streets with love songs to spring, and circus performers took to the streets to delight young and old, while DanceKool drew all in to dance and do the whip and the 'nae-nae' throughout the day!

But lo! The music does not end here! Just last weekend Spice Alley was graced once again by local troubadours, with jazz duo Kurt Mikolajczyk and Luck Apps riffing up punchy jazz and funk tunes.

Clayton Well’s Automata and Sam Miller’s Silvereye restaurants have sprung to life at The Old Clare Hotel!

Silvereye introduces to Chippendale a proud menu of Australian produce that counters a strong tradition in fine-dining of meat-heavy menus with a strong focus on vegetables, fish and shellfish and featuring experiments with tropical fruits, flowers and citrus!

Automata's focus is also set on providing the creme de la creme of ingredients direct from producers, and will feature a weekly changing five-course set menu for diners to indulge in a fun and exciting environment.
