Somewhere in the heart of Chippendale lies Kensington Street, tracing a path through Sydney’s creative hub to a secret garden abloom with budding talent.

On Sunday 20 September, this newly restored lifestyle destination will rise like a bird of paradise in the concrete jungle, shaking off its old debris to be adorned in flower garlands and ring with song.

It will spread its wings to unveil a nest of FREE sweets and treats for the child in all of us: creative workshops, live performances and the creme de la creme of Sydney’s food scene, all prepped to bring the heritage street to life. Formerly forgotten terraces will open their doors to reveal new artisans, specialty retailers, bespoke crafters and innovative entrepreneurs. flock of actors will soar past as manifestations of spring.

Our Spring Delights Fun Day showcases what lies at the root of springtime – a feast for the senses, a renewal of the old.

Chippendale New World Art Prize artist India Mark will charm with her “Primavera” painting workshop.

An origami workshop by Sydney Origami Inc, where visitors are invited to fold their own flocks of newborn cranes and insects.

Floral crowns by Kensington Street florist Clementine Posy, presenting a display wreathed in delicious spring scents of ivy and jasmine and set to crown all visitors as springtime kings and queens.

 

A graffiti mural master class by internationally acclaimed graffiti artist Scott Marsh, to turn an industrial district into a Garden of Eden

A hip hop funk workshop by DanceKool to keep Chippendale grooving after BEAMS night.

Face painting with Pineapple Painting to turn every face into a flowerbed!

A printing workshop by Bobbin and Ink, where visitors can emblazon fabrics with leaf-print designs!

 


Contemporary Australian singer-songwriter, Josh Rawiri will jolt a thumping pulse into Kensington Street with his heartfelt and potent live genre-fusion of pop, folk, deep roots rock, soulful blues and reggae.

Sydney-based acoustic duo, Alisha e Beni, will strum up the best of soul, funk, RnB, 80’s and 90’s pop with an acoustic edge, as well as some originals to not be missed!

Vibrant Daisy Sherwood-Miller brings her synthesized, 80’s revival and Chaka Funk to audiences, paired with carefree dance moves and killer vocals. This act will take you down 80’s synthpop lane!

Sean Emmett will conjure up the air of a troubadour and pluck at every listener’s heartstrings with his tunes of yesteryear blues.

 


Culinary masterpieces from Kensington Street's world-renowned restaurateurs showcasing a glimpse into their soon to open restaurants - these include:

Asian cuisine hot from Kopi-Tiam, recently opened in Spice Alley to spice up Chippendale with its hawker-style communal dining! This pan-Asian powerhouse includes Alex Lee Kitchen with its Singaporean cooking, Thai and Vietnamese fusions from Bang Luck Thai Street Food, Old Jim Kee’s Malaysian spices and the culinary stylings of Hong Kong Diner.

Bar Chinois is multi-purpose dining at its best - serving up breakfast, light lunches and desserts by day but transforming into a Chinoiserie style small bar at night complete with fresh cocktails and intricate sweet treats.

Glider Kensington Street and coffee with a Thai twist. Glider Kensington Street offers Single Origin Roasters coffee and fresh and vibrant Thai dishes.

These are just to name a few so come along on Sunday 20 September 11am - 3pm and taste the incredible treats on offer and more.

 

Winter coats and peeling facades will be discarded as old skins on the ground. Kensington Street will turn its fresh face to the sun. Don’t miss this moment of eternal sunshine, and enjoy the beauty this rich laneway has to offer.

Sunday’s laden table is ready for all to share, so come along to this sensory feast with family and friends, dressed in your SPRING BEST: bring your brightest prints and swinging floral dresses to the table! Watch local talents plate up dishes to strike all your senses and come under the wing of Kensington Street, Sydney’s newest bird of paradise.

Located on the fringe of Central Park, Kensington Street is Sydney’s brand new laneway destination, hidden within Sydney’s vibrant and eclectic Chippendale precinct.
