Mark Twain once wrote that 'there is a charm about the forbidden which makes it unspeakably desirable'.

Kensington Street is celebrating Good Food Month by giving members of the public license to indulge in the forbidden, with a series of events exploring the Seven Deadly Sins. The festivities kick off on Tuesday 25 October with a decadent dining experience and a titillating exhibition featuring some of Australia’s most acclaimed and innovative artists, all exploring the Seven Deadly Sins.

For one night only, lose yourself in an opulent and indulgent feast for the senses.

You are invited into a multi-sensorial immersive experience on the Eastside of Kensington street. Seven of Sydney’s most exciting restaurants; Bar Chinois, Mekong, Lower Mekong, Bistrot Gavroche, Spice Alley @ Spice House, KYO-TO, and KOI Dessert Bar will be transformed into hives of indulgence, with opulent table settings and an abundance of seasonal flowers.

Our talented chefs have each crafted a menu specifically for the event, with every component inspired by one of the Seven Deadly Sins. At Mekong, greed is good with luxurious mouthfuls of crab meat and coconut. At Lower Mekong, indulge your inner glutton with luxurious crispy roasted pork belly. Or, enjoy oysters done seven ways, paired with wonderfully sinful spirits and champagne at Bar Chinois.

All restaurants will be offering two sittings, the first at 6.00pm and the second at 8.30pm.

The dangerously delicious cuisine will be complemented by seven different musical and dramatic interludes from some of Sydney’s most cutting-edge performers. Dancers, actors and live musical acts will pirouette from restaurant to restaurant throughout the evening, tangoing on the tables and serenading diners. Mirroring the handcrafted menus, each performance will be inspired by one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Diners are encouraged to escape from their practical office attire and to be inspired in their dress by the Seven Deadly Sins. Be proud with a touch of violet, inspire envy in green, wrath in orange, or lust in red. Showcase your inner sloth in blue, your inner glutton in pink, or be greedy for the night and wear your favourite gold pieces.

For one night only, too much is never enough.

The feast for the senses continues at the 'Guilty Pleasures' exhibition in the Old Rum Store, where 30 artists will be creating original artworks, all of which explore the complex connotations of the Seven Deadly Sins, as they relate to food, through the medium of painting. The exhibition will be co-curated and opened by esteemed art collector, and longtime fixture of the Australian arts scene, Pat Corrigan.

Indulge in a wondrous collection of original artworks from some of Australia’s most widely acclaimed and innovative artists, including 2016 Archibald People's Choice Award Winner Nicholas Stathopoulos, alongside many-time Archibald Finalists Leslie Rice, Jasper Knight, Luke Sciberras, James Powditch and Paul Ryan. We also welcome internationally acclaimed street artists Scott Marsh and Mulga, and many other exciting names.

A percentage of the proceeds from this exhibition will go towards OzHarvest, the brainchild of 2010 Australian of the Year, Ronni Kahn. In 2005 Ozharvest successfully lobbied to legalise the donation of surplus food to charitable organisations, ever since they have helped countless Australians by using excess for good.
