Mekong has selected wines from Australia's finest wineries and producers to accompany the nuanced flavours of every dish. Coupled with spice and loaded with culture, our in-house experts have curated a list of whites, reds and local beers to uncork and enjoy from our copper-lined bar.

The selection has been tailored to each province's flavour profile - to enhance the rich milk in a Thai curry, or that star-anise fragrance of a Vietnamese broth.

A chilled glass of Yealands Landmade? The red cherry notes of Baby Doll Pinot Noir? A schooner of Bia Ha Noi?

Let's have a drink in our glass pagoda above the sea.

For those considering dining at Mekong, the reviews have been rolling out - and we're pretty sure they'll have you convinced.

Here's the cream of the crop for you to feast your eyes on. Intrigued by our wines list? These are the dishes that could be resting right beside your glass.

Pretty much any diner will have to order one of Mekong's signatures – squid ink dumplings w/crab meat & prawn stuffing. Ostensibly a Thai dish in terms of the filling mixture, the dish gets a Vietnamese treatment with a chicken broth that's made to resemble chicken pho broth... that broth is the star of the show.

No, seriously, I loved it so much that I

a) Drank the rest of what was within the teapot (according to the restaurant manager, I'm not alone in this!). And yes, I did this on both of my visits to Upper Mekong.

b) Visited Lower Mekong the following week to try their chicken pho to see if it's the same broth that's used. Unfortunately, it's not (but that pho is still pretty tasty!)

Yeah, I think I've proven my loyalty to that broth. Wait, we were talking about dumplings, right? *cough*

The sweetcorn harvest is another delight for our senses with its visual appeal, fantastic bouquet of herbs and spices and playful ingredients. Vietnamese rice flour cups are filled with smashed red bean, prawn, sweetcorn and cucumber relish. Topped with salmon roe, this plate provides a delightful refresher. These are nicely apportioned little cups of goodness so that you get all the flavours in one superb bite. Nestled amongst dried star anise, they are offset with subtle liquorice aromas to add a twist.

"The standout dish at Mekong. Steamed coconut is stuffed with tiger prawn, a whole egg cooked in coconut cream, basil and coconut milk. The dish starts in a wok then it is poured in coconut shell and steamed. A burnt cinnamon quill on the plate permeates the air with its spicy aromas. At this point, you'll need your jasmine rice to soak up every drop of the liquid and once you've reached the bottom, you can scoop out soft ribbons of young coconut. This is a bold, spicy and hot curry that will bring you back again."

Sauces and relishes are consistently delicious here; a world apart from the bog-standard sweet chilli sauce brigade. And if you want to finish your journey in a fresh, cool amusement park of flavour, go for the Bangkok ice-cream bowl, a happy mix of coconut ice-cream, pomegranate, roasted peanuts and chewy palm seed lozenges served in a coconut shell
