Mekong is Kensington Street's newest Indochine gem. Chef Tiw Rakarin, formerly of Mama's Buoi and Alphabet St, has dreamed up a menu whose courses traverse the terrains of the Indochine provinces, whose flavours stem back many generations.

At Mekong, we drift down from Burma cloud country, trace the Lao border, wake up to Thai sunrises, pause by gilded Cambodian pagodas and wade through rice paddies in Vietnam. Each Asian fusion dish is an escapist's wish.

Check out Mekong's function menu (PDF) to begin mapping your own culinary itinerary.

Mekong is available for hire for private functions 7 days a week, and can seat a maximum of 70 people.

The Old Rum Store is amongst Kensington Street's most historic locations. Raw, industrial spaces that were for so long vacant are now filled with life. These remnants of the old Carlton United Brewery welcome curious visitors to breathe their own character into the expansive brick and concrete spaces.

The Old Rum Store hosts three grand industrial spaces with balconies for your use as blank canvases to suit your event, whether it is a week-long conference or a one-night gig. These spaces hold possibilities for additional catering from our Spice Alley residents and surrounding restaurants: Mekong, Lower Mekong, Bistrot Gavroche, Bang Luck, Hong Kong Diner, Kyo-To, Old Jim Kee, and Alex Lee Kitchen.

The Old Rum Store is available for hire for private functions, with a capacity of 100 people.

KYO-TO is a tribute to its namesake city; a land ruled by temples, shrines and heavenly beings. Part terrace dining room, part open-air courtyard, Spice Alley’s first small restaurant delivers Japanese cuisine into a space bridging traditional talismans and contemporary design.

You will be led on a journey from a red-columned dining room inspired by the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine, out to a 19th century courtyard graced by graffiti geishas and Japanese lanterns. The tables are laden with homemade Japanese delicacies, cured to meet Spice Alley’s whirlwind hustle from pan to plate.

KYO-TO’s dining room welcomes groups of up to 25 people to relish in their luxurious soups and moreish share plates. Costs start at $25 per person.

Experience the tranquillity of old world Kyoto in the heart of Sydney.
